The Allen Park Animal Shelter
has proudly been providing shelter services for over 50 years. During this
time the shelter's focus has been and continues to be the safe return of cats
and dogs to their owners and/or providing a healthy environment until
adoption. Currently, the
shelter can hold 30 cats and 30 dogs.
In order to minimize stress, the cats and dogs enjoy their own
Feline and K-9 abodes. An Air Make-up System
designed to circulate the air with greater efficiency and 9 additional kennels
have been built as well. Your donations have an immeasurable impact on the
day-to-day operations at the shelter, including a new sidewalk connecting the
feline and K-9 abodes. The animal shelter wishes to extend a sincere Thank
You to all who remember the needs of our at-risk friends.
In order to maintain their
health and prepare the animals for adoption, shelter staff provide daily care,
cleaning and play time. The shelter also arranges for a vet to stop by to care
for ailing animals and prescribe antibiotics when required. The results are
healthier, calmer animals. Individuals and families who adopt from the Allen
Park Animal Shelter receive a certificate from Dix Animal Hospital in Lincoln
Park. Thanks to Dix Animal Hospital, new owners receive discounted spay/neuter services and
discounted vaccines. The shelter also supports a low-cost pet wellness & vaccine
clinic every Saturday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Kim's Suds 'n Shears Grooming
Salon, 300 S. Venoy, Westland, Michigan 48186, services performed by Dr. John
Hermann, DVM.
Through an
agreement with Hill's Pet Nutrition, Inc. the Allen Park Animal Shelter is
enrolled in the Hill's Shelter Partners Program. This program provides the
shelter with donated Hill's Science Diet pet food and, additionally, each
adopter receives a free 5 lb. Bag of food to take home with their new companion.
Your valuable donations enable the shelter to pay $.35/lb for shipping and
handling without accessing their already stretched budget! When you adopt an
animal, give Jon, Janelle, Kalin or Jessica your address and Hill's Pet Nutrition will
send nutrition information and a valuable coupon for your use. The Allen Park Animal Shelter wishes to
warmly thank you and the folks at Hill's for their kindness and generosity.
Agreements have been reached
with various communities to house their animals at the Allen Park Animal
Shelter. The City of Melvindale came on board April 1, 2006. In the
year 2007, Lincoln Park came on board May 22 and Garden City on May 21. The total number of
animal received at the shelter in 2008 was
1,401. There are more beautiful, fun cats and dogs now more than ever
before just looking for the right people to love and be loved in return.
Your financial donations help
us do everything we can for our four-legged friends no matter how brief their
stay with us. Cash and checks are accepted at the Treasurer's office Monday -

Animal Shelter. For convenience, checks can be mailed to Allen Park Animal
